GHOST LAMP | ANJA SOPIC

SOON AT THE STATE OF DESIGN, BERLIN 2017 FESTIVAL, AS PART OF ALLES NEU, NIEUWE GERMAN GESTALTUNG #006

Only recently, and coming from the arts, Köln based Anja Sopic established an interdisciplinary design studio, specialised in the production of lamps, tables and chairs. Anja Sopic’s furniture objects still oscillate at the interface of art and design though and are manufactured primarily as a vehicle to visualize and communicate particular aspects within the design process. As a result, a presentation – such as in this exhibition – does not necessarily culminate in the display of the piece of furniture, but can as well limit itself to a documentation of a work process - in form of text, images or other. For THE WALL–Nieuwe German Gestaltung #004, at the latest Biennale Interieur in Kortrijk, Belgium, she created an installation that consisted of two framed drawings dealing with the development of her Ghost lamp, and two mirrors. The installation aimed at generating a discourse between the designer, the object and the client/consumer, reflecting on existing values and rules within both the design practice and consumerculture. At ALLES NEU–Nieuwe German Gestaltung #006, the platform for German design of the state of DESIGN, BERLIN festival, Sopic continues this inquiry into the nature, process, notion and reception of design, by mapping aspects of her own furniture, and using another set of drawings and mirrors.
